Engagement Session

Carleigh + James | Burlington - Sunshine Donuts Engagement Session | Moments -by Lauren

This session started with us running to catch the sunrise and it ended with donuts - so I say it was overall pretty perfect. There was also a whole lot of adorable in between.

Check out a few faves from Carleigh + James' epic engagement session in downtown Burlington.

Which is YOUR fave?! This was my narrowed down list.

Ali + Jake | At Home Engagement Session | Moments –by Lauren

Ok, so before we get into how amazing Ali + Jake are, I want to let you in on a quick secret. Neither of them were super gung-ho on an engagement session when we first started chatting about their wedding photography… which is totally fine.

Similar to every couple that says that exact thing, I convinced them it was a good idea and they both came around – and were even up for a winter session (bonus!). So we waited for some snow and finally were all set – except for the fact that the snow melted through the afternoon on the day of the session. Seriously…

Lucky for us, we were already planning on shooting a part of the session in Ali + Jake’s new home so after I got there and basically wanted to move in – we spent most of the time just hanging out in their awesome space. I seriously can’t tell you how much I love these two and their ability to just go with the flow.

If I’m being honest, it’s quite the (incredible) jump going from not really wanting to be in front of the camera to letting your photographer stand a foot above you while you’re cuddled up in bed. But boy am I thankful. These adorably fun frames are some of my all time favourites, and I’m so excited to share them below!

Let me know what you think of the “at-home” vibe?? It’s quickly becoming one of my favourite places to shoot!

Maria + Al | McMaster University Engagement Session | Moments –by Lauren

It’s always such a bummer turning clients away when I’m already booked for their wedding date. I really just want to tell ALL the stories haha. After being sent my way by a previous MBL couple, Maria + Al still wanted to book just an engagement session … and I was so happy they did!

After learning more about their history, I loved their idea of heading back to the campus where it all began. Mac is a great spot, and we got such a beautiful night to hang out and capture a bit of their story. Everything just came together perfectly.

Also, let’s take note of how much these two slayed the wardrobe department. Every time they swapped out their outfits, I tried to convince them to style every session of mine – or maybe just my wardrobe - from here on out.

Clothing choices aside, this duo certainly knew how to have some fun and jumped into total client trust mode from the very beginning! From their adorable laughs to the quieter moments in between, I think it’s safe to say it was a huge success. We dodged the Friday afternoon traffic on campus for most of the session, but my total fave was when I decided I should just keep shooting with a few little photo-bombers trying to get out of the way as quickly as possible. I’m all about keeping things real.

Just wait for it…

Zoe + Jay | Burlington Engagement Photographer | Moments –by Lauren

Man, oh man… get ready to be killed by these smiles.

A little bit of a backstory – I knew Jay in Highschool and I got to know his lovely bride to be when we sat down to chat all things wedding photography! Going into this session I knew it was going to be a good time but I think after the first set of frames it was basically a done deal. The camera loves these two. Jay is a total joker and in combination with Zoe’s laugh, these two are just infectious.

There was no shortage of some good old “lol’s” and these two were up for anything as we breezed through the park – which we basically had to ourselves (score!). Take a peek through a few frames and probably my favourite laugh sequence ever.

Lujain + Bryan | Brantford Airport Engagement Photography | Moments -by Lauren

I love it when my couples are up for something different. Lujain, Bryan and I ran through a few options when we started chatting about their engagement session and we found something a little outside the box that all three of us were pretty pumped about.

It’s not every day you get to take over a runway, and the Airport in Brantford certainly didn’t disappoint… we truly had our run of the place. Lets put this killer backdrop aside for a second though, and discuss how Lujain + Bryan completely stole the show. I seriously couldn’t get enough of how much fun they have together, how much they can kick back and how they can bring out those smiles in each other.

“What smiles?” you may ask. Take a peek at some of my favourite frames… That second shot was literally the 7th shutter click of the session. (…come on, right?!)

They’re getting hitched this Sunday and I have a sneaking suspicion those smiles might make another appearance.

Mariah + Cory | Hamilton Engagement Photographer | Moments -by Lauren

This blog post is long overdue…but also comes officially two weeks before Mariah + Cory get hitched! (cue the excitement!)

I didn’t know this duo before they came to meet me on their hunt for a wedding photographer, but man have we hit it off since then. They are so easy to talk to, to laugh along with and of course, to have in front of the lens as you’ll see in a minute.  Back in May, the three of us (and their adorable pup, Paisley) hit up the waterfront trail to grab a few frames in a spot they often go for walks. Paisley was SO excited to be in front of the camera that she quickly got her fill in before we moved up to Albion Falls for a little variety.

After hanging out by the waterfall for a bit, Cory told me how the session was “actually a lot of fun” right before we wrapped. Coming from a Groom, it’s the exact way to become my instant favourite, haha. All kidding aside, I’m so excited to join their big day in a couple of weeks, and might even force them to hang out with me in the future too. They are definitely one of those couples you just want to grab a beer with.

14 more days!

Alex + Chris | Artscape Wynchwood Barns Engagement | Moments -by Lauren

We’re just 30 days out from Alex + Chris saying their “I Do’s” and I think that’s as good a time as any to share a few faves from their December engagement session.  With the chilly temperatures the week before Christmas, we found a killer venue in downtown Toronto and shot most of the session in the main hallway of Artscape Wynchwood Barns – baring the cold and popping outside for about 3 minutes at a time so we wouldn’t have to bundle up. (A great team decision by the three of us...)

This athletic-as-heck duo met at our Alma Mater while playing on their respective varsity sports teams and 6 years later got engaged in an adorable at-home fashion that involved the assistance of Alex’s niece – a story that is sure to make anyone swoon. They’ll walk down the aisle and celebrate with their nearest and dearest in Niagara-on-the-Lake next month…where there definitely won’t be any snow on the ground.

The smiles on these two… I’m obsessed.

Liz + Justin | Hamilton Engagement Photographer | Moments -by Lauren

I know I’m all about the epic love stories on the blog lately, so why should this one be any different? I remember learning early on in our communication that Liz + Justin got engaged at the airport…and I believe my initial response was that I HAD to meet them if only to hear this story. Needless to say we immediately hit it off after hearing that amazing surprise proposal story (it happened while waiting to check in for their European vacation) and gushing over our mutual love of everything #HamOnt.

When it came to planning their engagement session, it was a total no-brainer. We spent an afternoon hitting a few of their favourite spots. The three of us started off with a round of coffee at Saint James and wrapped over a couple of beers at Collective Arts Brewery…oh, and threw in a few photos here and there too.

Liz + Justin immediately felt like two of my longest friends and even gave me a few more hot-spots I had to try both in the city and abroad! They are tying the knot this June and I think that I’ve almost convinced them that when they renew their vows somewhere in Europe in the future…that I’ll be tagging along!

Angela + Alex | Burlington Engagement Photographer | Moments -by Lauren

If you can believe it, Angela + Alex grew up just a few hours from each other here in Ontario, but didn’t meet until they were both in London, England.  I know, right…their love story starts like any good romantic movie.  (They have all the makings of a full plot, but I'll save a story or two for their wedding post!)

Fast forward about 5 years and they are getting ready to say their “I do’s” this coming July.  Of course, knowing this duo for years now, we have totally shared some laughs but getting to document their relationship first hand was truly such a blast.

Dodging some raindrops as we strolled the Burlington waterfront, Ange + Alex killed their session almost as much as they killed their wardrobe choices.  They danced on the dock, met a few animals along the trail and were just so effortlessly adorable together it was so hard to narrow down this blog post.

Take a peek at a few of my faves below.

Misia + Tom | Brantford Engagement Photographer | Moments -by Lauren

From the first time they sat across from me in my office, Misia + Tom have had me swooning.  Just like out of a movie, Tom came into the pub one night when Misia was bartending. Their first conversation lasted hours, only to be followed up by their first official date the following night. They quickly grew to be best friends, fit in seamlessly with each other’s families and as they say, the rest is history.

The countdown is on for these two and their NYE wedding, a year after their adorable Holiday proposal that took place last year!  A few weeks back we caught the perfect sunset a few blocks from their Brantford home and they couldn’t have been more adorable in front of the lens.

If you can believe it – this session lasted only 15 minutes and resulted in some of my fave engagement frames ever. Talk about chemistry.

Fun Fact: Misia is as sweet as she is a total genius in the kitchen. She surprised me with some of her incredible home made gluten free cookies and my goodness they were delish! Recently launching her own business, you HAVE to check out what she is whipping up over at Marzipan Bake Co

Taylor + Jay | Guelph Engagement Photographer | Moments -by Lauren

I met Jay a little over 10 years ago when we both attended University in Guelph. (holy moly time flies…) Fast forward through University and a good chunk of “real life” to this past spring when I got to meet Taylor - who it naturally felt like I had known just as long.

They make it seem all very effortless, these two. In a way that made capturing their relationship not only easy, but also a total blast. Tying in their love of sports, a local park, and of course their adorable rescue pups…it goes without saying we all had a pretty good time soaking up a sunset. Being back in the city and reminiscing a bit wasn’t too bad either.

They are getting hitched next summer, but I’d love for you to see some faves from their session in the mean time.

Taylor + JJ | Toronto Engagement Photographer | Moments -by Lauren

The countdown is on for Taylor and JJ!

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of having these two in front of my lens as we stopped by a few favourite spots in Toronto. These two were perfectly suited for the city backdrop and their natural chemistry made them total rockstars from start to finish. My favourite part about an urban engagement session is the wide variety of backdrops you can find in such a short time frame, and this session definitely didn't disappoint. These two had a ton of fun at every stop we made, and had me swooning through their entire gallery again today.

After a quick wardrobe change, we wrapped the session down by the waterfront where we ran into a little wind and some serious (read: hilarious) problems with lighting a sparkler. Rest assured, our 3-person huddle and handy work by JJ had it up in running after about 300 attempts...and it was totally worth it in the end! (I just love when my clients trust me with a little experimentation)

You can find a few favourites below, and after leaving them some love in the comment section, come back and visit soon as they are saying their "I do's" in 10 DAYS!
