Top 5 Moments of a Wedding Day | Hamilton Wedding Photographer | Moments -by Lauren

As this year's wedding season has already kicked off, I wanted to share some of my favourite parts of any big day that I’m lucky enough to be a part of. Of course, every wedding is unique and comes with it’s fair share of incredible moments, but without fail these are the ones that I wait for and always seem to be some of my faves.

1.     Dad’s First Look

Of course, anyone’s first look at the bride is always such a great moment, but there is something a little extra special when a Dad sees his little girl ready to walk down the aisle. Whether he wells up with tears or is simply beaming with pride, this never (ever) gets old in my books. That same expression is also usually found as he looks on at the ceremony or shares a dance with his daughter at the reception. There’s no way to describe it except #allthefeels.

2.     The Vows

My favourite part of the vows is all of the nerves that come with them. In what are some of the most important words that will ever be said in their relationship, couples are full of emotion, they sometimes stutter or maybe even need to pause to get their composure. What I love though, is most often they let out a nervous laugh or two along the way. Any way this goes, it’s pretty awesome to see, as there’s no hiding the couple’s love at this moment. They’re in this together.

3.     Glances After the Signing

Oh boy. This is one that sometimes goes unnoticed, but one that I always try to snag. The couple has finished their vows, the rings are on their fingers, they’ve signed the registry and it sinks in…they’re married. There is always a look of excitement they share that can’t quite ever be replicated. They also probably think no one is watching as the witnesses finalize the paperwork. It’s awesome.

4.     Speeches

There is no better way to learn more about a couple than through the speeches at their wedding. Their favourite people get up and share their best stories, their funniest moments, and all the love they’ve shared over the years. I don’t think there has been a night of speeches that hasn’t made me laugh out loud at one point or tear up a little bit behind my camera during another. The outrageous, meaningful, hilarious and touching moments all certainly bring about some great moments to capture and I love every second of it.

5.     Dance Floor

These are epic. As soon as the party starts, you’ll find me in the thick of the dance circle capturing the best moves the party has to offer. Maybe (probably) even dancing along myself.

2017 : Year In Review | Hamilton Wedding Photographer | Moments -by Lauren

Every year I’m completely overwhelmed (in a good way) when drafting this post. Not only because I get to look back on all the stories I got to tell in the past 12 months, but because I’m reminded again of how lucky I am to be able to capture these moments.

Last year I broke down how I go about choosing these images, and things definitely haven’t changed. [Check out last year’s post + my reasoning here.] The genuine moments between couples, family and friends top the list yet again, and there are a few of my favourite epic shots as well.

I’m so excited to share these faves with you today, and even more excited for all the stories that are still to be told. 2018 is going to be filled with so many new chapters that are waiting to be captured….if you think you might like some of yours documented, I’d love to hear from you.

So, here they are… the best moments of 2017.

Happy New Year, Everyone!

Rosaline + David | Toronto Engagement Photographer | Moments -by Lauren

One of my favourite parts about getting to know my couples is finding out how they originally met…and it blows my mind when their paths seem so unlikely to have ever crossed. Rosaline grew up in France and David in Peru. They met in Toronto at Rosaline’s first day of work, which sounds like it could have only ever happened in a romantic comedy.

Fast forward through two and a half years and the sweetest proposal at Mount Tremblant, this duo is planning their March wedding and I’m so happy I get to tag along for all the fun.

If I can tell you one thing about this duo…it’s that they sure make Sunday morning sessions look easy.

p.s. You'd never be able to tell, but it was pretty cold and Rosa + David were such troopers. When we starting strolling the beach we saw a whole group of people who were scuba diving (!!!!)...we agreed that things could have been worse for us. Haha!

Mariah + Cory | Hamilton Engagement Photographer | Moments -by Lauren

This blog post is long overdue…but also comes officially two weeks before Mariah + Cory get hitched! (cue the excitement!)

I didn’t know this duo before they came to meet me on their hunt for a wedding photographer, but man have we hit it off since then. They are so easy to talk to, to laugh along with and of course, to have in front of the lens as you’ll see in a minute.  Back in May, the three of us (and their adorable pup, Paisley) hit up the waterfront trail to grab a few frames in a spot they often go for walks. Paisley was SO excited to be in front of the camera that she quickly got her fill in before we moved up to Albion Falls for a little variety.

After hanging out by the waterfall for a bit, Cory told me how the session was “actually a lot of fun” right before we wrapped. Coming from a Groom, it’s the exact way to become my instant favourite, haha. All kidding aside, I’m so excited to join their big day in a couple of weeks, and might even force them to hang out with me in the future too. They are definitely one of those couples you just want to grab a beer with.

Golden Hour – Sunset Photos on your Wedding Day | Hamilton Wedding Photographer | Moments –by Lauren

On a wedding day, it often happens that the gorgeous glowy light everyone (especially me) longs for just doesn’t align properly with your wedding day timeline. Once the warmer weather arrives, the sun is setting half-way through your reception instead of at the time we’ve set aside to capture some of your first moments as a married couple! This is unavoidable of course, and there is a solution that I always recommend to my couples…and do an internal happy dance when they decide to take advantage of it!

The ASK

I always request that my couples give me 10-15 minutes throughout dinner to sneak out for some extra portraits of just the two of them with the best light of the day.

The EXECUTION

I’ve found the trick is to time this properly so that my newlyweds aren’t missing out on any major events or delaying the reception timeline or next course. Prepping them before the big day, and then again ahead of when it will be perfect to sneak out is the best way to make this happen.

I’ll also have a game plan and location ready for us to head to so that we find the best light and of course, don’t waste any time!

Not only do my clients love those sunset images, but also love the chance to step away from the celebration and enjoy a few quiet moments together too. #winwin

All this being said, sometimes there isn’t a magical sunset or there just isn’t any time to sneak away…and that’s fine. I’m just sharing these notes so that you think it over, make a little wiggle room and don’t regret passing on those few extra frames!

The EXAMPLE

Em + JD got married last September at the Beverly Golf + Country Club. A venue that was made for sunsets. Keeping an eye on the fading sun, I remember popping up to the head table after the second course to let them know that if we were going to grab a few golden hour shots, it should happen in the next few minutes. They thought it over for about 5 seconds at which point Em’s MOH/Sister/My Hero chimed in and insisted they do it (Thanks, Britt!!). Check out a couple of my favourite images below from that 10 minutes we were outside!

The moral of the story, if you have the chance to squeeze this in…you should.

Feature : The Hamilton Spectator | Hamilton Wedding + Lifestyle Photographer | Moments -by Lauren

I'm thrilled to share that I was featured in the "Young Professionals" section of The Hamilton Spectator this week! Not only was it a huge honour to have my business profiled, but also so exciting to get a chance to chat about what it's like to run a business and chase my dream in #HamOnt! I've been so overwhelmed by all the support and well wishes, and am so looking forward to where this journey takes me next!

I'd love for you to check out the feature here -- > Young Professionals : Lauren Valvasori

New York City | Hamilton Lifestyle Photographer | Moments -by Lauren

Dreaming of adventure on this Monday afternoon ... and it had be thinking back to my time in NYC last summer with my two favourite ladies. I could think of no better way to celebrate a Mother's Retirement + a Sister's 30th birthday than to jet off to the Big Apple for a 4-day getaway...so that's exactly what we did! It was my Mom's first time there, my second and Gill's third, but we still managed to cross so many new things off the bucket list of things to do! We strolled Central Park, saw a Broadway Show, took in a taping of Live with Kelly, and hit up the top of the Rock too. We had such a blast that my trying to describe it would really just not do it justice...but here's a few faves I managed to snag from our visit!

Something a little different you're used to seeing here...but why not! Got an adventure of your own planned soon? I'd love to hear where you're headed!!

Josie + Bryan | Hamilton Engagement Photographer | Moments -by Lauren

I've mentioned before how lucky I am to work with such amazing clients and help capture such important moments in their lives, but another favourite part of my job is being able to explore new places. This doesn't necessarily mean crossing the world or the country to somewhere brand new (although that's pretty great too), but even finding a new corner or a new angle of the city I grew up in is truly awesome.

Now I've know Bryan my whole life. In fact, we often joke that he's known my siblings longer then I have - which is sadly true haha. After seeing Josie come into his life as his perfect match and now have them come in to chat wedding plans, I was of course so excited to be chosen as their photographer. When discussing the engagement session, they knew they wanted something cool - throwing out the idea of a hitting up a local theatre. Naturally, I was pumped as creating custom sessions for my couples is the BEST.

We strolled through the downtown core and finished up the evening at the Lincoln Alexander Theatre - a true gem in the heart of downtown #HamOnt.

These two are saying their "I do"s in a month and a half - so leave them some love below and stay tuned!

30 Under 30

I'm still coming down from cloud nine after hearing on Friday that I was chosen as one of the top 30 Under 30 Wedding Photographers in Canada by The Canada Photo Convention!! (...so crazy to be typing that!)

I'm beyond thrilled and humbled to be surrounded by a group of such amazing photographers and loved scrolling through the album of winning images! I'd love for you to go check them out here - see my own featured page and interview here - and also see my winning set of images below!!

A HUGE thank you to my brides and grooms for trusting me with their big days, as well as everyone who has supported me along this amazing journey as I cross this off of my list of career goals! Can't wait to see what the rest of this year brings as wedding season gets into full swing in a few weeks! Woohoo!
