Riley + Ryan | Whistle Bear Golf Club Wedding Photographer | Moments -by Lauren

Today marks one year since Riley + Ryan tied the knot on a gorgeous afternoon at Whistle Bear, but the day is still so fresh in my mind.

Even if I hadn’t scrolled through the photos as I was crafting this blog post, the one thing I’ll always remember about this day was the number of incredible moments shared between this duo and all of their favourite people. Some brought a tear to your eye and a little lump in your throat (in the best way), and others brought a serious belly laugh. All these little moments came together perfectly to craft an awesome story for these two to treasure for years to come - one that couldn’t be more well deserved.

Take a trip down memory lane + join me in wishing “The Meads” a very Happy First Anniversary.

Ali + Jake | At Home - Caledonia Farm Wedding | Moments -by Lauren

Re-living this day brought a smile to my face.

The entire thing played out exactly how Ali + Jake wanted, in such a laid back and fun way that was so true to how they envisioned their wedding from the first time we chatted. They got ready together at their incredible farm house, which allowed them to spend the entire day with each other … something that I had never documented before but immediately loved the purpose behind - as each moment of the day they got to enjoy together.

With their siblings in tow, we made our way along some country roads to tie in another personal element to the couple - the Grain Elevators at Jake’s Family Farm. The unique backdrops were a perfect touch before we swapped out Ali’s bouquet for a beer and jumped back into the trucks to return. That little toast to the couple quickly became my favourite sequence of images from the day, because it so perfectly defined their relationship — a thing that all wedding photographs should accomplish.

Waiting back at their own property were all of their favourite people who gathered to watch them make it official**. An emotional (barefoot) walk down the aisle and adorable ceremony that involved all of their family members was the perfect way to kick start the party. The celebrations continued on the other side of their property, where guests mingled under some string lights and grabbed a bevvy from their killer bar setup.

The hilarious speeches, multiple first dance combinations and rocking dance floor were the best way to carry out the evening under the stars - and a perfect cap to the day these two put together.

** I can’t vouch for if things ARE actually official - Jake signed the wrong part of the licence at the time, which I’m almost sure they corrected after the ceremony was wrapped ;)

Reminisce with me a little bit, would you?…

Behind the Scenes : 2018 | Hamilton Wedding Photographer | Moments -by Lauren

Well friends, here’s a fun look back at all the things you don’t really get to see throughout the year. A look behind the scenes! All of these have been snapped by me, one of my pals second shooting, and even a couple of clients - and they give a quick peek into some of my days behind the lens last year!

You’ll see some action shots, some light tests, and some hilarious outtakes too. Even though I am constantly wearing black, usually have incredibly messy or wind-blown hair, I can guaranteed I’m having such a blast fixing a dress, setting up a shot or petting any dog in sight.

Take a peek, have a laugh and hopefully stick around for the Year in Review coming tomorrow!

Tiffany + Matthew | Old Mill Toronto Wedding Photographer | Moments -by Lauren

While I was heading to Toronto really early that morning, I remember knowing Tiff + Matt’s day would be filled with lots of celebration, lots of moving parts, and timeline that was down to the minute to fit everything in (which was beyond impressive, by the way!). There was going to be two ceremonies, 3 dress changes, and all the other usual fun that comes with a wedding day — all before the day wrapped up at 4pm too.

I knew the schedule, everyone’s names, the layout of the venue and the game plan for our portraits - but what I didn’t know on that drive was how epic and genuine the day was going to turn out to be.

Real moments and traditions are by far two of my favourite things to document and there was no shortage of either that day.

Take a peek.

The best part of this blog post, is that so many of the images are Tiff + Matt’s faves too! Check out their final wedding album design below — and a few photos they sent over from when it got into their hands this week!! SO fun!

Top 5 Moments of a Wedding Day | Hamilton Wedding Photographer | Moments -by Lauren

As this year's wedding season has already kicked off, I wanted to share some of my favourite parts of any big day that I’m lucky enough to be a part of. Of course, every wedding is unique and comes with it’s fair share of incredible moments, but without fail these are the ones that I wait for and always seem to be some of my faves.

1.     Dad’s First Look

Of course, anyone’s first look at the bride is always such a great moment, but there is something a little extra special when a Dad sees his little girl ready to walk down the aisle. Whether he wells up with tears or is simply beaming with pride, this never (ever) gets old in my books. That same expression is also usually found as he looks on at the ceremony or shares a dance with his daughter at the reception. There’s no way to describe it except #allthefeels.

2.     The Vows

My favourite part of the vows is all of the nerves that come with them. In what are some of the most important words that will ever be said in their relationship, couples are full of emotion, they sometimes stutter or maybe even need to pause to get their composure. What I love though, is most often they let out a nervous laugh or two along the way. Any way this goes, it’s pretty awesome to see, as there’s no hiding the couple’s love at this moment. They’re in this together.

3.     Glances After the Signing

Oh boy. This is one that sometimes goes unnoticed, but one that I always try to snag. The couple has finished their vows, the rings are on their fingers, they’ve signed the registry and it sinks in…they’re married. There is always a look of excitement they share that can’t quite ever be replicated. They also probably think no one is watching as the witnesses finalize the paperwork. It’s awesome.

4.     Speeches

There is no better way to learn more about a couple than through the speeches at their wedding. Their favourite people get up and share their best stories, their funniest moments, and all the love they’ve shared over the years. I don’t think there has been a night of speeches that hasn’t made me laugh out loud at one point or tear up a little bit behind my camera during another. The outrageous, meaningful, hilarious and touching moments all certainly bring about some great moments to capture and I love every second of it.

5.     Dance Floor

These are epic. As soon as the party starts, you’ll find me in the thick of the dance circle capturing the best moves the party has to offer. Maybe (probably) even dancing along myself.

What's your favourite part of a wedding day to see?! Let me know, below!!

Meaghan + Jeff | Berkeley Church Wedding Photographer | Moments -by Lauren

As 2017’s wedding season is coming to a close, let’s jump back to where it kicked off.

Meaghan got ready at her parent’s house, where I walked in to find 7 lovely ladies sitting around the kitchen table – almost as if it was what they did every weekend. There was not a stressed out vibe in the room as they laughed, shared a few sips of their bevvies and watched one of their best friends get her final touch ups. The excitement carried through to everyone’s first looks of Meag in her dress as we packed up to go meet Jeff who would be waiting at the front of the aisle.

Berkeley Church hosted their perfect ceremony that brought lots of happy tears (that first look!!) and even a few laughs, with their nearest and dearest looking on. As soon as it was official, we snuck away to Osgoode Hall for some portraits with a backdrop that had a personal connection to the bride and groom. Not only did this entire group bear the freezing cold, but there was not one complaint and a serious team effort to rotate the coats when it wasn’t their turn in front of the camera. I’ll tell ya though, I realized there’s nothing like plummeting temperatures to keep everyone’s attention and get everything done hella fast.

Not only did this group have a ton of fun, but the boys had me laughing out loud behind the camera on more then one occasion – and it was amazing. Total #weddingpartygoals across the board.

We explored inside and grabbed a few epic frames for the newlyweds before heading back to the party that was eagerly awaiting their arrival. The delicious dinner was served, the incredible speeches followed and all of the fun was had once that dance floor opened.

Everything that went into Meaghan + Jeff’s big day made it a very high bar for all the ones that were to follow this year. Lucky for me, the trend continued.

Jaime + Travis | Cleveland's House - Muskoka Wedding Photographer | Moments -by Lauren

Every time I think back to Jaime + Travis’ big day, I remember the feeling that the entire day just felt like being at home. Even a full year later, it still makes me swoon reminiscing about all the love that surrounded them all day.

Both Jaime + Trav got ready at Jaime’s family cottage in Muskoka, separated by only one flight of stairs before making their way to the dock for their first glimpses at each other. Typically my couples request that this moment is more of a private one, but this duo definitely wanted the rest of their crew right next to them looking on, and sharing it with them.  From there, I don’t think the smiles stopped for the rest of the day.

We spent some time hanging out at the cottage, adding to the list of memories that this group had seen there over the years. We headed to their gorgeous outdoor ceremony at Cleveland’s House, cocktail hour on the deck and then an epic set of speeches, tributes, and laughs that brought us into the evening. Of course, we popped out to the dock for a few final portraits before their first dance as husband and wife.

This cottage wedding brought together Jaime + Travis’ favourite people and it seemed like everyone under that roof had such a bond that it was just infectious. And one thing’s for sure, these people knew how to party.

Golden Hour – Sunset Photos on your Wedding Day | Hamilton Wedding Photographer | Moments –by Lauren

On a wedding day, it often happens that the gorgeous glowy light everyone (especially me) longs for just doesn’t align properly with your wedding day timeline. Once the warmer weather arrives, the sun is setting half-way through your reception instead of at the time we’ve set aside to capture some of your first moments as a married couple! This is unavoidable of course, and there is a solution that I always recommend to my couples…and do an internal happy dance when they decide to take advantage of it!

The ASK

I always request that my couples give me 10-15 minutes throughout dinner to sneak out for some extra portraits of just the two of them with the best light of the day.

The EXECUTION

I’ve found the trick is to time this properly so that my newlyweds aren’t missing out on any major events or delaying the reception timeline or next course. Prepping them before the big day, and then again ahead of when it will be perfect to sneak out is the best way to make this happen.

I’ll also have a game plan and location ready for us to head to so that we find the best light and of course, don’t waste any time!

Not only do my clients love those sunset images, but also love the chance to step away from the celebration and enjoy a few quiet moments together too. #winwin

All this being said, sometimes there isn’t a magical sunset or there just isn’t any time to sneak away…and that’s fine. I’m just sharing these notes so that you think it over, make a little wiggle room and don’t regret passing on those few extra frames!

The EXAMPLE

Em + JD got married last September at the Beverly Golf + Country Club. A venue that was made for sunsets. Keeping an eye on the fading sun, I remember popping up to the head table after the second course to let them know that if we were going to grab a few golden hour shots, it should happen in the next few minutes. They thought it over for about 5 seconds at which point Em’s MOH/Sister/My Hero chimed in and insisted they do it (Thanks, Britt!!). Check out a couple of my favourite images below from that 10 minutes we were outside!

The moral of the story, if you have the chance to squeeze this in…you should.

Josie + Bryan | Hamilton Wedding Photographer | Moments -by Lauren

Last year’s love stories have been long overdue here on the blog, but I’m so excited to kick things off with Josie + Bryan’s big day!

If you remember their engagement session, you’ll know that Bryan and I go way back and that I got to meet Josie long before these two became an MBL couple. That being said, all the details leading up to their wedding had me so excited not only as their photographer – but also as their friend… and it definitely didn’t disappoint.

Through all the genuine moments of the day I don’t think I would be able to pick a single favourite, but I can say that the smiles these two have on their faces will certainly bring one to yours. From the false start down the aisle…to the quick break for McDonalds, the laughs this group shared can almost be heard through your screen.

From the moment you stepped into their cocktail hour at Michelangelo’s, you were thrown back into the 20’s with Josie + Bryan’s on point décor and flapper dancers that joined everyone through dinner. A perfect dice game brought out some epic dance floor moments that had everyone ready to celebrate this awesome couple in style for the remainder of the evening.

It goes without saying that I was honoured to tell their wedding story and I’m so happy to finally share it. Check out a few moments from their Gatsby inspired day that was filled with love, laughter, dancing and of course champagne.

Misia + Tom | Brantford Engagement Photographer | Moments -by Lauren

From the first time they sat across from me in my office, Misia + Tom have had me swooning.  Just like out of a movie, Tom came into the pub one night when Misia was bartending. Their first conversation lasted hours, only to be followed up by their first official date the following night. They quickly grew to be best friends, fit in seamlessly with each other’s families and as they say, the rest is history.

The countdown is on for these two and their NYE wedding, a year after their adorable Holiday proposal that took place last year!  A few weeks back we caught the perfect sunset a few blocks from their Brantford home and they couldn’t have been more adorable in front of the lens.

If you can believe it – this session lasted only 15 minutes and resulted in some of my fave engagement frames ever. Talk about chemistry.

Fun Fact: Misia is as sweet as she is a total genius in the kitchen. She surprised me with some of her incredible home made gluten free cookies and my goodness they were delish! Recently launching her own business, you HAVE to check out what she is whipping up over at Marzipan Bake Co
